Time for New Yorkers to get Excited for the Super Bowl!

This year New Yorkers have a great reason to get excited for the SUPER BOWL! This past weekend the NEW YORK GIANTS defeated the SAN FRANCISCO 49ER’S to win the 2012 NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME and earned a spot to play against the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS in SUPER BOWL XLVI! Whether you are a GIANTS fan or a PATRIOTS fan, this game will be intense – this match up between the two teams marks their rematch of SUPER BOWL XLII from 2008 when the GIANTS defeated the PATRIOTS to become the SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS.

This year’s SUPER BOWL XLVI will take place on Sunday, February 5th, 2012. The BRIDGESTONE SUPERBOWL HALFTIME SHOW will feature infamous pop artist MADONNA, who will pair up with the young rap artist NICKI MINAJ. The Chinese New Year is on Monday, January 23rd, 2012!

The CHINESE NEW YEAR, also commonly known as the LUNAR NEW YEAR, will be celebrated on Monday, January 23rd, 2012. It will become the YEAR OF THE DRAGON – the 5th animal in the 12 year cycle. According to infoplease.com, legend has it that in ancient times Buddha asked all of the animals to meet him on the CHINESE NEW YEAR. When 12 animals arrived to meet him, Buddha named a year after each one (giving us the year of the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog & Pig).

If you are looking for a way to celebrate the CHINESE NEW YEAR, you don’t have to go far! On Saturday, February 4th, 2012, at 11 A.M. the LUNAR NEW YEAR PARADE will be taking place – kicking off at the intersection Union Street and 39th Street. Most people gather on Main Street in order to view the LUNAR NEW YEAR PARADE, which features over 4,000 marchers, steel drums, a dragon and fireworks. After the parade, celebrations continue at the QUEENS CROSSING MALL, which features cultural performances and festival booths.

FLUSHING TOWN HALL will also be hosting a LUNAR NEW YEAR FESTIVAL. On Saturday, February 4th, 2012, after the parade, FLUSHING TOWN HALL will have it’s ANNUAL DANCE SAMPLER, which features traditional dance performances from China, Korea, India, Thailand, Taiwan and the Pacific Islands in honor of the new year. On Sunday, February 5th, 2012, FLUSHING TOWN HALL will be hosting LUNAR NEW YEAR WORKSHOPS for children, where they can attend a DRAGON PUPPET MAKING WORKSHOP or a LUCKY BAG ORIGAMI WORKSHOP. The Progressive International Motorcycle Show Comes to the Jacob Javits Center – Friday, January 20th – Sunday, January 22nd 2012!

Motorcycle enthusiasts have a good reason to get excited this week – the PROGRESSIVE INTERNATIONAL MOTORCYCLE SHOW will be arriving at the JACOB JAVITS CENTER on Friday, January 20th, 2012! This year’s PROGRESSIVE INTERNATIONAL MOTORCYCLE SHOW includes a little something for everyone – including the KAWASAKI DESIGN-A-BIKE feature, where you can create your own custom KAWASAKI MOTORCYCLE by adding specific colors and graphics. If you built your own MOTORCYCLE, then you can participate in the ULTIMATE BUILDER CUSTOM BIKE SHOW for a chance to win the largest prize offered in any building competition!

The HOLIDAY INN LAGUARDIA AIRPORT HOTEL in Corona, New York is located within walking distance to the #7 Subway line directly to/from Manhattan. To get to the JACOB JAVITS CENTER from the hotel, guests would walk up 114th Street and make a right onto Roosevelt Avenue, then walking to the 111th Street Subway Station. Guests would take the Manhattan bound #7 train to the 74 Street – Broadway stop, where they would transfer to the E train and then take the Manhattan bound E train to the 34th Street- Penn Station stop. Exiting the subway station on 34th Street and 8th Avenue, guests would walk on 34th Street toward 12th Avenue. The JACOB JAVITS CENTER is located between 11th Avenue and 12th Avenue on 34th Street.
